Not Just a Meal

Thanksgiving has always held a special place in my heart. It is one of the few days each year we collectively pause take a breath and feel grateful, truly grateful, for what we have. Of course, gratitude is something we should practice every day, but life gets busy. Schedules fill and obligations pile up, and before we know it, appreciation slips quietly into the background..That is why I cherish this holiday so deeply. Family time is one of my greatest joys and Thanksgiving gives us the perfect excuse to slow down and simply be together. It is a time to simply share a great meal and create new memories without rushing towards the next thing.

As the pace of the holiday season starts to quicken, let this be a gentle reminder: step back and look around. Notice how good it feels to be surrounded by the people you love. Let the stress of perfect tables, perfect turkey, and perfect pies fade into the background. Thanksgiving isn’t about perfection. It’s about gratitude, presence and the memories we choose to make!

This year will be my third Thanksgiving as a grandmother, and it has me thinking about how I can add my own little touches to the traditions we already love. My grandson is two now, and one of my favorite places to have him by my side is the kitchen. Cooking and baking together aren’t just fun. They’re wonderful opportunities for learning. Measuring ingredients becomes math, stirring builds fine motor skills and naming new food boosts vocabulary and the best part is we’re making memories flower dusted, and full of giggles! You don’t need to be a chef or a master baker to make it meaningful. A boxed cake mix or a tray of refrigerator cookie dough is more than enough. It’s a togetherness that becomes story he’ll remember.
